2022 Fright Flight Lite

We are advertising an external group’s tournament. AYU is not hosting or sponsoring the event in any way. Fright Flight is an Adult only event.

Thanks to everyone for making Fright Flight part of your ultimate season.

Fright Flight was started in 1995 by Heath Mackay and Holly Wright. The tournament is a Halloween themed ultimate frisbee event that is certainly a sight to behold! Where else can you see a bunch of Oompa Loompas chasing after a flying disc without mind altering substances.

Since its inception, Fright Flight has been a tournament focused on fostering Spirit of the Game, creativity, inclusion, growing the sport of Ultimate, healthy competition, and having a lot fun! Built on 25 years of tradition, Fright Flight is a great way to play frisbee with old and new friends alike while dressed up in whatever crazy costume theme your team can come up with.

For 2022 we are hosting a smaller one-day event on Sunday, October 23th in Broomfield with 16 teams. We hope to find a home for a two day Fright Flight next year.

Here are the basic tourney details for 2022:

Dates: Sunday, October 23
Format: 4/3 Mixed
Location: Broomfield Commons (not CSU!) – https://www.broomfield.org/Facilities/Facility/Details/9
Costumes: you can’t play without them!
Location: Broomfield Commons
# of Teams: 16
Tourney Cost: $300 per team, up to 20 players. Additional players are $15 each.

Format: TBD – all teams will be guaranteed 4 games

Food and Beverages

  • A food truck will be on site for food after the games/during finals

Bid Submittals/Announcements: Fright Flight will fill up and we consider the following factors when awarding bids:

  • Bid submittal date
  • History with the tourney (i.e. killer themes in the past)
  • Team theme
  • Team size
  • Team competitive ranking

Bids will be awarded by September 18th or sooner if I can, so please get them in asap.

As always, our goal is to make this event as fun as possible while still offering diverse levels of competition. So, put on your thinking caps and send in a creative bid!

To submit a bid: Submit your bid by filling out the following information about your team through this google form:

  • Team name (if you have one)
  • Team location (where are you coming from)
  • Team theme – it’s OK if this changes but give some thought to what you have in mind!
  • Number of players you have committed to play
  • Your team’s history with Fright Flight (i.e. # of years you’ve been coming, past team themes, where your team finished in the past, etc.)
  • Contact info for the team captains (name, email address and cell number)
  • Your “expected” team ranking on a scale of 1-4. Use the following criteria for ranking.
  1. Have hopes of winning the tourney
  2. Expect to finish in the top 8
  3. Expect to finish middle of pack (8-12)
  4. Who cares about winning games, we’re here for the kegs!
